Deanna Troi is the ships counselor and is played by Marina Sirtis. Her
quarters on Deck 8, 0910. She is a half-Betazoid, half-Human who is
an empath and can read others, except for Ferengi's, feelings. She
has full telepathy with her Betazoid mother, Luxwanna Troi, who is an
aristocratic member of Betazoid's Fifth House. Her father was a Starfleet
officer named Ian Andrew who died when she was a baby. She had a sister who drowned when Troi was about seven. She and Riker knew each other before being assigned to the Enterprise, had an affair and almost married. She had an alien son who died shortly after birth and whose father was/is of mysterious origin. She helps Worf care for his son Alexander, and have become very good friends. Several episodes/books with settings in the future have shown Diana and Worf to be married.
